Banksy + Fat Boy Slim + Run The Jewels = Jolly Boys Outting
Last Friday evening we headed south to Weston to take a look around the Banksy Bemusement Park Dismaland. Now I’d seen photos of the park mainly in day light where it doesn’t do the theme park justice. We’d booked tickets for this Friday evening to kill two birds with one stone, see the exhibition and catch Run the Jewels who were over here in the studio with Massive Attack. At night the bemusement park has that feel of fair grounds of old that used to magically pitch up in the dead of night in English towns to the surprise of locals in the morning. The scale of some of the installations is impressive with Banksy’s take on the Disney Palace greeting you on entry.
What really makes a difference is the venue. Being able to mooch about the Bemusement Park to view the art on display, in the open air with beer in hand really had a carnival feel to it. Which may be juxtaposed with the ‘Dismaland’ theme but with Fat Boy Slim providing the soundtrack at one end of the park and Mexican carnival music at the other the mood was chilled with a nice buzz in the air of wonderment?
The end of the night was capped off with a killer set by Run the Jewels.
